He tried to tell them.

So, here he is, Ben Grimm before he became the Thing. He was the only one who had enough sense to realize the dangers of the mission, but is manipulated, against his professional judgment, into piloting the ship all because of one word: "COWARD!"

Well, he hardly looked like a coward when he saved her life later in the story!

If you ask me, Sue Storm was as much to blame as Reed Richards!

Anyway, that's my take on the Fantastic Four and the Thing for now! I'll be blogging more about them later along with much more! Stay tuned!

  1. Also, one can substitute the word "terrorists" for the word "commies" in Sue Storm's speech for a pithy comment on the eternal politics of fear.

One thing to be said about Ben Grim, is at least his given and his surname begin with different letters. It seems in the golden age of comics, if the opposite is true, you stand that much more chance of becoming super-powered.

And if there a certain amount of alliteration or music to the pair, then seriously... your fate is pretty much sealed. (I have to say, however, if you don't actually gain super-powers, then you will probably end up as the girlfriend, wife or sidekick of someone with them.)
